Song of the Moment (July 2026)
Artist: Silversun Pickups / Song: Thorns and All
I’ve been listening to Silversun Pickups for two decades now, and they still deliver one of the absolute best live shows I've ever experienced. They are one of those rare bands that still leave me impatiently counting down the days between album releases.
This is a band that tends to release songs that can feel slightly esoteric on the first listen. They write songs that demand multiple listens and patience. Driving down the highway, flying across the country, or running your favorite trail, I often listen to their music searching for meaning behind the lyrics. Then, in an instant that feels like being struck by lightning, I discover my own version of truth. I love this kind of music. I love these kinds of songs. I crave them.
“Thorns and All,” which can be found on the 2026 release, “Tenterhooks,” is not a song I completely understand. Since its release in February, I have spent considerable time with it, but I still don’t fully understand the message or story it is trying to get across. Some people might find that frustrating, but I find it enthralling. I get to choose my own adventure, and craft a narrative that fits my own life. Of course, there is a chance this might never happen to me. That is also fine. There is joy to be found in the hunt.
Be good to each other,
Nathan
