Potent Quotable (July 2026)

“Be careful whom you choose to hate. The small and the vulnerable own a protection great enough, if you could but see it, to melt you into jelly.” -Leif Enger

“I remember it as October days are always remembered, cloudless, maple-flavored, the air gold and so clean it quivers.” -Leif Enger

“Pride is the rope God allows us all.” -Leif Enger

“I’ve always liked the feeling of being the first one awake in the morning; it makes you daring, somehow.” -Leif Enger

“Sometime after noon the Plymouth began to miss. Not like your small cars, bless their dainty hiccups, when the Plymouth missed the whole care seized backward, cousin to a bucking horse.” -Leif Enger

“That this house was so empty even God was not inside it.” -Leif Enger

“His eyes were windows through which I glimpsed an awful country.” -Leif Enger

“He was watching the meadow and after some silence rose and stood close to the glass. A herd of deer had come out from a black tangle of trees. They were crossing the meadow, so shapeless at this distance seeing them was an act of faith.” -Leif Enger

“Then history entered me - my own and all the rest of it, more than I could hold, history like heavy rain - so I knew the man coming along was my father, Jeremiah Land; and all that had happened, himself slipping down the hood of the Ford, Roxanna’s hard grip on my shoulder, the air drumming in my ears like bird wings, came back like a mournful story told from ancient days.” -Leif Enger

Be good to each other,

Nathan Box
Hello! My name is Nathan. I've always believed I would meet that special someone in one of two places; either a record store or a book store. Maybe I need to amend? I moved to Seattle in February of 2011 from Oklahoma City (Try and not hold the Sonics/Thunder thing against me). I knew I wanted to work for a nonprofit and go to grad school. Within a couple of months, I was doing both. During the day, I work as a Fund Developer and Community Relations Manager for a nonprofit in Kent and at night I try to stay as busy as possible volunteering, trying new restaurants, finding hidden bars and exploring Seattle. The past few years has been both terrifying and exhilarating. I have done things on my own I didn’t think were within my capability. I love being outdoors. On any given weekend, I can be found hiking, on a road trip, volunteering, at a museum, seeing a movie (I see a lot of them). I am passionate about nonprofit work. I feel called to leave a mark on this world. Nothing against those who enjoy making tons of money, I just need to know I am making a difference.
