Prompted: Yesterday’s Horoscope

Write yesterday's horoscope.

Yesterday, over coffee, you were asked by a friend you haven’t connected with in a while, “How are things going in your world?” Reflexively, you said, “partly cloudy with some sun breaks and a decent chance of rain throughout the day.”

Outside the coffee shop, the trees are budding and blooming as winter fades into Spring, like a transition between the scenes of an 80’s sitcom. Pollen and the smell of fresh petals hang thick in the air. There is a feeling of change sewn into the atmosphere. You’ve lived in the Pacific Northwest long enough to know that it would be foolish to store away sweaters, unpack shorts, and prepare yourself for busy weekends on Alki Beach. Seasons never come so abruptly around here. But you have learned enough to give yourself permission to purchase a new pair of sunglasses, because no one has the faintest idea where last year’s pair has gone. As you hand your credit card to the cashier, you promise to do a better job of keeping track of this year’s newest necessity.

Change defines all seasons, and the same could be said of your life. Yesterday, you received news that has radically altered the work you do. Remember the bravery required to purchase new sunglasses? Embrace the change. Doors may open or remain closed for now, but you will never know what is waiting on the other side if you aren’t brave enough to try.

Around here, April always brings a false Spring. Every May gives you a week that feels like Summer. In those days of joy, after months of hardship, we are reminded of the bounty that is life in the Pacific Northwest. Hints of change bring new and fresh possibilities. Spirits are lifted and moods change, even if we are being teased. Give yourself over to the process. Greener grass always replaces the winter varieties.

Be good to each other,

Nathan

Hello! My name is Nathan. I've always believed I would meet that special someone in one of two places; either a record store or a book store. Maybe I need to amend? I moved to Seattle in February of 2011 from Oklahoma City (Try and not hold the Sonics/Thunder thing against me). I knew I wanted to work for a nonprofit and go to grad school. Within a couple of months, I was doing both. During the day, I work as a Fund Developer and Community Relations Manager for a nonprofit in Kent and at night I try to stay as busy as possible volunteering, trying new restaurants, finding hidden bars and exploring Seattle. The past few years has been both terrifying and exhilarating. I have done things on my own I didn’t think were within my capability. I love being outdoors. On any given weekend, I can be found hiking, on a road trip, volunteering, at a museum, seeing a movie (I see a lot of them). I am passionate about nonprofit work. I feel called to leave a mark on this world. Nothing against those who enjoy making tons of money, I just need to know I am making a difference.
