Cinephile No. 472 "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies"

"The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" is a frenzied, chaotic movies about men fighting over treasure, jewels and a ring. Its placement as a December release is a perfect analogy for how most of us Americans act during holiday shopping outings. I also know at its core there is much more to this story than the sentence I use to describe it. Beyond the theme of good triumphing over evil I walked out of the all three "Hobbit" movies with a feeling that something was missing. Was a lesson unapparent to me? Was I reading too much into a fantasy story? Do I expect too much from movies? The answer to all three of these questions is more than likely, yes. I don't know if that is my fault or the fault of the film maker.
