The Sadness We All Carry

Each one of us carries a burden; a burden that for some of us is more than our shoulders can stand. In these cases, we reach out to family, friends, and/or even complete strangers. We do this in some dire need to find some common ground. We very rarely wish our pain on others rather we are seeking guidance, direction, advice, or the wisdom that can only come with experience. 

Some of us have the tools necessary to face this world. Some of us are lucky enough to have a circle of support to which we can turn to unburden our souls. There are too many of our fellow Americans who don't have this luxury. Too many of our fellow Americans are ill-equipped. They find solace in movies, video games, and the pain of others. Never satisfied, the lust intensifies until it can no longer be quenched. The only end is suicide or death brought to the doorsteps of the innocent. 

American tragedies leave us questioning God, government, and those in authority. We look for answers. We need answers. We demand answers. In these moments, maybe it is within ourselves we should gaze. Maybe that is the only place the truth can be found. 

We all carry sadness. Most of us have the tools to cope. A growing number of our fellow citizens do not, but I find encouragement in knowing we can change that.
