Cinephile No. 538 “Burnt”

A kitchen can be a high pressure, violent place and "Burnt" proves it. Now, this shouldn’t be a surprise to us. We’ve seen “Hell’s Kitchen,” “Kitchen Nightmares” and read Anthony Bourdain’s books. These places hidden in the back of restaurants and hotels are filled with deadlines, expectations, cursing, threats and often violence. Better than any movie I can recall, “Burnt” gives us a front row seat to that pressure and it does it with interesting plot twists. Sure, things are solved easily and in the end everyone wins, but the film is still worth the price of admission; that is if you can stand the heat.

Be good to each other,
