"The Chinese Mayor" was a rare look at the economic progress inside communist China. Some of the things that struck about this film, beyond the level of access given to the filmmakers, was the similarities between the US and China. Both countries are dealing with a growing gap between the classes. Both societies are trying to strike a balance between preserving the past while looking to the future. Both countries are mired in forms of bureaucracy. Both are societies which put a lot faith in our leaders. I left the theatre with a sense that maybe our societies and countries aren't that different after all.
Thanks for entering my world,
